After School Programs are At Risk

After School programs are at risk of losing federal funds

Congress is considering legislation that threatens the only funding source dedicated to after school, the 21st Century Community Learning Centers initiative, with extinction. It’s crucial that a diverse and broad set of voices tell Congress to keep funding intact for the after school programs that are keeping 1.6 million kids safe, inspiring them to learn and helping working families.

The Connecticut After School Network will join 300+ after school supporters to meet with Members of Congress TODAY, March 10—help us by taking action from home.

  • Send an email or call your representatives’ offices. 2,500 messages have been sent so far – let’s deliver 10,600 emails on behalf of the 1.6 million kids at risk of losing their after school programs.
  • Busy? It just takes a second to join our Thunderclap campaign and add your voice to those of hundreds of advocates taking part in the Afterschool for All Challenge on March 10.
  • Want to get more involved? Dig into the Afterschool Alliance’s social media toolkit for customizable messages that you can use to target Members of Congress with data from Connecticut. The kit also includes Twitter handles for every Senator and Member of Congress, so start reaching out now!
