De-escalation for Summer
The full-day format of summer programs comes with a host of benefits and opportunities, but sometimes it also comes with intense, even extreme behaviors. How do you handle situations where a child is fighting, running, screaming, destroying things, or otherwise endangering him/herself or others? Serious behavioral issues are a missed opportunity. Instead of trying to contain or manage the problem, we could and should be taking advantage of the summer and equipping children for happiness and success. In this intensive day long Double Deep Dive session, we’ll take a close look at why children escalate and how to deescalate them, including hands-on, powerful tools and approaches that turn the most challenging behaviors into meaningful opportunities for lasting growth and social-emotional learning while keeping children and staff safe. Participants will receive opportunities to practice new skills and troubleshoot their own real-life scenarios.
