Community School Program Director

In partnership with school officials, parents, the community and other organizations, COMPASS endeavors to equip youth with the skills and attitude necessary for success in school and in life.
COMPASS is looking for an energetic and dynamic individual to fill our full-time Community School Program Director’s position. The purpose of this position is to plan, implement, coordinate and manage the community school program. General Job responsibilities include but are not limited to: serving as a member of the management team; ensuring high quality community school programs; and to initiate and enhance working relationships within the community.
Key Tasks and responsibilities include but are not limited to: on-going assessment of family, child and school needs; creating linkages between resources within the community to the needs identified; establish working relationships with community businesses and resources; provide supervision for direct reports; prepare reports and deliver presentations regarding community schools; and serve as a member of the COMPASS management team.
Minimal Requirements include a Bachelor’s degree in Education, Health and Human Services or related field; three years experience working with urban youth; two years experience working with Public School Systems; knowledge of community school strategies and principles; knowledge of resources within the Hartford community; strong written and oral communication skills; strong organizational skills and evidence of progressive supervisory responsibilities. - To assist in the coordination of space need with building staff.
- To approve payroll time cards for site staff, and get to main office by noon every Monday.
- To be available to work full-time hours on holidays, snow days, and vacation camp full-day programs.
- To ensure adequate supplies for the program have been received or that need to be picked up in the main office.
- Must come to the office at least twice a week to pick up paperwork/ supplies.
- Performs special assignments, studies, and routine administrative functions as directed by the Director.
- Responsible for picking up and dropping off budget/receipts by dates as directed by Program Coordinator
- Responsible for making purchases for food as listed by snack menu.
- Must post lesson plans weekly, snack menu monthly and all other items as deemed by the Director of Child Care Services.
- Must attend monthly All-Staff meetings as assigned unless extreme circumstance. (i.e. college course)
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This will be a part-time position, during the school year, including early release, vacation and snow days scheduling. Pay and hourly schedule to be determined by Director of Child Care Services.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Director of Child Care Services.
WAGE RANGE:
- $15.00-$20.00 per hour
- Funding through this position will be through the Division of Child Care Services generated revenue.

An aptitude for communicating well with children and adults is essential. He/she must possess ability to develop the self-esteem and personal growth of children.
Assistant Teachers: Valley-Shore YMCA School Age Program
Under the direction of the School Age Director and Site Coordinators this position will provide the daily supervision, lead the activities and ensure the safety of the children in the School Age Program. The incumbent must show a genuine interest in working with children and ability to communicate with them and to develop their self-esteem and personal growth to the fullest.
