Workshop I:  Summer Program Safety

Peggy Kelley, Assistant Director of School Age Programs, Education Connection

This workshop is packed with simple tips on how to keep your kids safe throughout your summer program. Peggy Kelley will provide your staff with the knowledge to cover all of the safety basics to keep your program running smooth. Topics include: staff supervision, basic first aid review (not certification), sun safety, field trip safety, allergies, caring for common summer ailments, heat-related emergencies, playground safety and much more!

Workshop II:  Enriching Fitness and the Arts: Folding in Literacy without Losing the Fun

Elise Scott, Connecticut After School Network

This interactive training introduces concepts and strategies for folding age-appropriate Literacy learning into arts, crafts, sports, and fitness activities from basketball to papier mâché and beyond.  Rather than trading fun for enrichment, learn how to increase the fun and also engage those children who are usually less engaged during active or creative activities.  Align to the National Common Core effortlessly!  The training includes key tools and strategies as well as hands-on learning opportunities.  Come ready to play and learn!

Workshop III: Infusing STEM and Science Fun into Summer Programming

Melissa Adams, Science Consultant

Summer provides the perfect opportunity for learning about science and the outdoors. The workshop will provide participants with strategies and age appropriate lessons and experiments that will engage children. Hands on activities to take back to your programs will be presented, as well as ways to incorporate learning standards. Finally, you will learn how to find appropriate STEM activities and present them in an engaging way.
