Social and Emotional Learning / After School & Summer Working Group

New Working Group Forming
First meeting June 8th

Interested in how afterschool and summer programs can better help kids and families in terms of social and emotional learning and behavioral health? The Connecticut After School Network is forming a new working group to help us implement a new grant to expand our trainings and resources in these essential content areas.

The types of topics we might include are:

● Parent engagement: how to talk to parents about difficult issues, how to make appropriate referrals, how to encourage parents to be better advocates for their children.

● Child & adolescent development: what’s normal and what’s not for different age groups, how to help children and youth transition to middle school and high school.

● Social/emotional learning: how to help children make friends, how to help children settle their own disagreements, supporting children’s self-esteem, identifying and talking about emotions.

● Behavioral health: signs that a child might be depressed, how to help a child experiencing an anxiety attack, trauma and its effects on children, promoting positive behaviors.
