Meeting the needs of kids and families – Afterschool programs are bringing new partners together to redesign learning and help children thrive.
Our vision – It is time to redesign and rebuild a more robust, equitable learning environment that will help all children reach their full potential. With true collaboration among afterschool programs, schools and community partners we can meet the needs of kids and families during recovery and create lasting changes to ensure every child is cared for, included, educated, and inspired.
Why now? School closures taught us that we need more resources and partners supporting students as we tackle the unprecedented challenge of redesigning the learning day. Afterschool and summer programs are helping address the multiple crises we face in providing child care, quality learning, and social and emotional support for young people. Afterschool leaders are asking students and families what they need and forging partnerships to create new ways and places for kids to learn. This innovation should not end with the pandemic; rather, collaboration between community partners and our schools should grow and flourish. Working together we have a better chance of meeting the needs of our children. We must tap all the assets in our communities to help children thrive.
