Parenting is often said to be both the toughest and the most rewarding job in the world. In the after school world, it’s easy to get so focused on what we need from parents that we sometimes forget to honor them for their hard work and dedication. What’s more, for parents who are struggling to pay the bills, get to their jobs, and keep everything moving in the right direction, it can be hard to find ways to offer support, inspiration, and connection. Did you know that National Parent Involvement Day is November 21st? It’s a day for noticing how impressive parents are, and lifting up and celebrating the effort they put into being a part of every aspect of their children’s education and lives.
And guess what, there’s more! We want to call your attention to a terrific opportunity to lift up a parent you know who is a shining example to us all.
The State Education Resource Center (SERC) and CT Parent Information and Resource Center (CT PIRC) award the Parental Involvement Recognition Award every year. Veronica Marion at SERC says, “we are looking for parents who have shown active involvement in their child’s or children’s school or community; support of their local school and contributions to high‐quality education for all children; evidence of their ability to make a difference in their local school or community; and dedication and advocacy to ensure equity for all parents and their children.”
