You may have already heard that the Federal Government is withholding $6 billion dollars in education funding. Part of this includes the 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21CCLC), which is the only dedicated federal funding source for afterschool and summer programs. In Connecticut, that equates to thousands of children without a program to go and thousands of parents that may not have childcare as of July 1st, 2025.
These funds have been appropriated by Congress and are legally mandated to be released to the states. To learn more about what is going on and how to get involved, the Afterschool Alliance has an abundance of resources and information about these and other current events impacting afterschool across the country. Additionally, 21CCLC programs are also eliminated in the President’s Budget Proposal for future funding.
