Date: April 19, 2017
Time: 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
Location: New Britain YWCA
Relationships are at the center of the work we are doing. Each of us has countless interactions with people throughout the course of the day that have varying degrees of impact on programming. The quality of these interactions often relate to the spaces programs can use, the level of trust and buy-in linked to school-community partnerships, and the continuation of funding as a result of coordinated advocacy efforts. In this session we will briefly cover research-based elements that are necessary in creating these conditions and discuss recommendations and barriers to implementation.

Directors and Supervisors Training Event
Date: April 21, 2017
Time: 8:30 – 3:30 am
Location: Hartford Office
As directors and supervisors you are called upon daily to solve problems and put out fires. Too often your own professional development and self-care takes that back seat to managing problems. We invite you to join us for our Special Training Event for Directors and Supervisors for Spring 2017. This session is designed for afterschool professionals currently, or aspiring to be, in a leadership position at the program or site level. Learn from active skill-building workshops, participate in the Directors Panel and Lunch Roundtable Discussion with colleagues from across Connecticut, and gain tips for re-energizing yourself and your program.
Workshop I – Are You Ready? Learning to Define Your Role as a Supervisor in the Evolving Field of After School
As afterschool programs are called upon more often to help support children and family needs, the effective supervision and leadership of staff often takes a back seat to funder expectations and program goals and curriculum. How do we as leaders balance staff development with quality programming? Are there ways to empower staff and delegate responsibilities to develop their leadership potential? In this session, participants will discuss current issues they face in their programs related to this dilemma and come away rejuvenated with practical ideas they can apply.
Workshop II – Staff Engagement Equals Quality Programs
Are you/your staff engaged during the work day, or just “present”? This workshop will provide you with strategies and tools to help advance yourself or your staff from just being present, to being truly engaged while working in your programs. We will discuss what staff engagement looks like, how to achieve it, and how it will improve the overall quality of your program.
Workshop Fee
Member $60.00
Non Member $85.00
