We hope you have enjoyed all our training offering in 2016. We are ready to kick off our training once again in 2017. Here is what we have coming in January.
Supervisors Foundations: Supervisor 101
Date: January 5, 2017
Time: 8:30 – 12:30 pm
Location: CASN Office, Building 1, Hartford
Skill Building for Your Staff
Staff development is one of the essential components to creating a high quality after school program. Too often we attend trainings, go back to our programs energized, and try to translate learnings to staff only to have the result be short lived or have a binder that sits on a shelf. Teaching staff active learning techniques that allows for practice and refinement is the core of our third Supervising 101 session. We will discuss and practice the needed elements of effective communication, teamwork, boundary setting, appreciating children’s multiple intelligences, and being a motivational support for all staff.
Workshop Fee
Member $175/4 days or $50/day

Double Deep Dives – De-Escalation: How to Respond to Defiant Children and Overwhelming Situations
Date: January 10, 2017
Time: 9:00 – 3:00 pm
Location: Mystic Seaport, Mystic
Positive behavior management strategies are intended to help children make good choices. But what about children who continuously struggle? How do you handle situations where a child is fighting, running, screaming, destroying things, or otherwise endangering him/herself or others? Serious behavioral issues are a missed opportunity. Instead of trying to contain or manage the problem, we could and should be equipping children for happiness and success in afterschool and in life. In this intensive day-long Double Deep Dive session, we’ll take a close look at why children escalate and how to deescalate them, including hands-on, powerful tools and approaches that turn the most challenging behaviors into meaningful opportunities for lasting growth and social-emotional learning while keeping children and staff safe. Participants will receive opportunities to practice new skills and troubleshoot their own real-life scenarios.
Workshop Fee
Member $110.00
Non Member $160.00
